HD Forensics - About Us

HD Forensics, in conjunction with Tripwire Operations Group, serves as a training platform for law enforcement, medical examiners, and all other professionals involved in the recovery and processing of human remains in forensic contexts. Dennis Dirkmaat, Ph.D., D-ABFA, and FBI Special Agent Michael Hochrein (ret), serve as the lead training professionals in the areas of forensic anthropology.

Dirkmaat and Hochrein believe that uncovering the full story surrounding an outdoor homicide begins with and must include, the reconstruction of events surrounding the Death Event. We strive to educate and inform law enforcement officers, coroners/medical examiners, and medicolegal death investigators on the importance of forensic archaeology and outdoor crime scene reconstruction. After a death event occurs, there are many factors that can alter evidence such as  animal intervention, climatic and geographic factors, and human impact. These forensic taphonomic factors can have a profound effect on the conclusions we draw, impacting our understanding of how that individual died. We are leaders in the field of forensic taphonomy and the reconstruction of the events surrounding the death of an individual in the outdoors It is our hope to provide the best possible training and create a better understanding of how to decode the outdoor crime scene.

HD Forenisics is co-directed by internationally recognized experts and forensic anthropology and archaeology consultants Dennis Dirkmaat, Ph.D., D-ABFA and FBI Special Agent Michael Hochrein (ret). They provide a wide variety of services to the law enforcement, medicolegal, and jurisprudence communities focused on forensic scene recoveries (outdoor and indoor), mass disaster incidents, forensic DNA interpretation, forensic anthropology cases, and general criminalistics.
